Cedar Highlands is Iron county’s newest incorporated town, and one of the newest in Utah, having only been incorporated in 2018. While many towns have a long history before finally being incorporated, Cedar Highlands’ history is relatively recent.
Cedar Highlands was established as a weekend retreat in the 1980s, and consisted of vacation cabins. However, several residents became permanent residents, a feasible decision due to the areas close proximity to Cedar City. The needs of the 120 residents was too much for the local homeowner’s association, especially the risk of wildfires from the forest. The town was officially incorporated in 2018, and has a population of around 370.
